Stuff Breaking

Tascam US-122

I will never get a Tascam audio device again. It bleeds the audio through the headphone jack to the inputs. It doesn't do this in the line out, so I plug my headphones into the speakers. And I get terrible noise through the preamp inputs, and then one of the preamp inputs blew. And I got it fixed once last year, after a few months, but it was beyond the 90 days of warranty. I don't know if 90 days is standard, but it's terrible.

iRobot Roomba

This little robotic vacuum is cool. We got it when it first came out. But it kept dying. iRobot replaced it several times. Finally we said, we want our money back, and they said no, but we will give you the new model. They didn't send us a battery or charger for it, they forgot, so we couldn't use it until they did.

Friendly Robotics Robomower

The huge lead acid battery that came with my Robomower almost exploded. It overcharged and got a major bulge, and if I had not caught it, it would have ruptured under high pressure. They stalled for weeks and did not want to give me a replacement as the battery was out of its one-year warranty, but finally relented, probably because I showed them a picture that showed how badly the battery was messed up. I like my mower but am very dissatisfied with their customer service, which in the U.S. appears to be one guy whom you can contact via e-mail. Stay away.

LaCie 250GB Hard Drive

I bought six of these things over the last year, and one died soon after I got it. They repaired it as soon as I sent it back to them. No problems, except they took way too long to respond via e-mail. We went back and forth on e-mails several times before they gave me an RMA, and they took a few days to reply to me each time. Lame.
